Education and Outreach

FLDT is committed to education as well as performance, and has an extensive array of lecture-demonstrations, classes, residencies and workshops to develop audiences and bring the general public and students into the creative process. The company feels strongly that dance should be available and accessible to all, and provides outreach and free ticket programs to special and underserved populations. The company currently has a monthly, online class, open to all (which is free for all FLDT members, as well as anyone who is unable to pay), that focuses on different topics in dance. (Please see our UP NEXT page for more information.) Felice Lesser also teaches a 3-credit course in “Dance Appreciation” at the University of Connecticut/Stamford Campus.

About

The Felice Lesser Dance Theater (FLDT) creates and performs new dance works. In its forty-nine year history, the company has produced many dance works, three full-length "living movies" (TRAP IST, FUNDING THE ARTS, and RUNNING BACKWARDS ON THE TREADMILL), all of which explored important contemporary issues as well as the intersection of technology and the arts), video/dance works (the "live documentary" I AM A DANCER, LIGHTNING, and NEW YORK, NY), a number of original television broadcasts, contemporary music commissions, and many contemporary music and contemporary art collaborations. FLDT is currently preparing its 50th Anniversary NYC Season (June 2025), which will feature the World Premiere of Lesser’s I AM A DANCER 2020, dealing with how dance workers navigated the Covid Pandemic.

The Felice Lesser Dance Theater is a member of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) and A.R.T./NY.
